twice in the past week, from two different posters, i have been called an "asshole.
" in both cases, the person made an assumption about me based on something that was said in a thread.
in both cases, i responded by saying i disagreed with their characterization and explained why.

they said what i wanted to believe.
it sounded good: a worldwide brotherhood who would not go to war against each other, a strict adherence to god's word, the teaching that god could not burn people in hell because he was a loving god, a striving to be approved by god by doing good works, etc.. i believed.

i just got through reading a thread based upon a statement from happy man.. from his post i gather that he is still an active jehovah witness.
and thinks that the good in the organisation outweighs the bad.. -----------------------------------.
why is it that when someone comes here for the first time or that when someone says something that is pro-watchtower the members of this board decend apon them like a piece of meat thrown into a kennel full of hungry dogs?.

Lots of newbies come on here and are welcomed with open arms.
Others come on and are attacked.

Genuine inquiring Newbies, I dont think, are attacked. Perhaps there are mistakes. But in the main, I think the regular posters judgements correct.
Despite Jeromes being a deciever, people here still talk to him.

I can just see the orgs opinion of this board, they ,of course are incredibly tolerant and understanding of our positions arent they?
They read this stuff and think, "well the apostates are right on that one, we'd better do something to redress it". Dont they?
is it any more religions on earth who have over 6 million members, and who not are taking a part inn war, and not take part inn politics .

a practicing jw is having some doubts about the borg.. he, and his wife are parents of a severly retarded son, whom they treat with much love.
they take him to some meetings & endure much heartache, as he cannot sit still for long.
he constantly drools & sometimes throws fits, he is strong and they need help in restraining him at times.. they believe that jehovah god will restore him to health, and if they just hang on long enough the new system will be here.. would you tell them the truth about the jw lie, or let them live in a fools paradise?

A few years ago I was attending meetings of a nutty pentecostal splinter group.There were two old people there who had a son about 40.The son was desperately schizophrenic.
Course, the parents wouldnt allow the use of medication because they believed the young man "had a demon', which the congregation (only 20 people or so)used to wrestle with, praying and "casting out', every weekend.The man got no rest.
I felt so goddamn bad about that mans plight. They just made him sicker and sicker.
hypothetically speaking, how do we know that we do not have a jw plant amongst ourselves??

the World as a whole against the teachings of the witnesses.
wrong. The "world" of none witnesses couldnt give a rats butt about the JWs.Noone even knows what they believe other than the blood issue. A most inconvenient issue that generates bad PR for the org and, thus, will have to be abandoned.
Actually Orgs like the Witnesses make me laugh. They decry the "world" as so wicked, yet they utilize the worlds laws to their own advantage. Eg: freedom of religion. The Witness org goes into court to fight for the right to proselytize in countries that oppose their activities, yet Gods "plan" is that the wicked world will persecute them and stop the preaching work.

Probably my obsession with eschatology and predictive date setting was the last thing about the JW saga to leech out of me.
Interest in eschatology and visions of destruction is what drew me into studying other cults and churches. I was most interested in the compilation of a recent history of predictive date setting leading up to the year 2000, which i completed.
I expected a LOT of activity, but not much happened that I saw.
A lot of Mormons and radical right wingy christians stocked up on wheat, lentils and honey because of Y2K, that was about it.
I think 2012 may prove an exciting year in the lead up, but Ive lost interest in the whole subject now.
hey guys,every sunday i have a family dinner.family and friends are welcome,including dubs who can leave their religion outside my door.the house is alive with laughter,conversation,people playing video games,surfing the net,and watching the newest movie out.i have to start cooking early,so when people start arriving they can smell dinner cooking.before dinner there are appetizers,cold beer,wine,and a nice bottle of 12 year old whiskey for the gents.its always a fun time for everyone and it helps keep the family together.does anyone else have a day they put aside for the family?..
